What is the structure of running shoes?

To understand running shoes and buying running shoes, you should first understand the structure. Running shoes, or most sports shoes, are roughly divided into three parts.

1. The outsole (or outsole) is the layer at the bottom of the shoe that touches the ground. Wear and slip resistance are the key to it.

2. Midsole, between the outsole and the insole. Resilience and foot protection are the key to it. The midsole is also the part of the running shoe with a high technical content.

3. The upper part, mainly above the insole, including the entire upper part of the shoe. Breathable, easy to wear and take off, beautiful is the key to it.

On the shoe wall of the sports shop, pick up a running shoe to observe. From the outsole, the outsole is usually covered with the whole sole, which is covered with various special lines, and there may be many grooves in the middle. Most of the colors are black, there are other colors, and the thickness is generally 3-5mm. The main function of the outsole is to play a role of wear resistance and anti-slip during direct contact with the ground. The full texture and groove back play this role. The outsole material is generally a carbon-containing rubber which is relatively wear-resistant and has an ideal anti-slip effect and weight.

Between the outsole and the colorful upper part, there is often a white midsole. The midsole generally has a thickness of about 1-2 cm, and its main function is to cushion the vibration from the ground. (When a person is running, the vibration transmitted to the body by the ground can reach about 8 times of the usual walking state.) If there is no midsole, the running movement will be very unfavorable for the vibration damage of the whole body. Therefore, various high technologies have been developed and applied to the midsole. They are different in meaning, but they all aim to reduce and shift the vibrations, so that you feel comfortable and safe during running. The material of the midsole, in addition to the patented technology specially used by each brand, most of the materials used are foamed rubber such as EVA or PU. It provides good elasticity and very light weight.

The midsole is up, it is the upper part. This part is in direct contact with your feet (and of course the socks). It acts like a protective sleeve that protects your feet safely. Among them, the first is the insole that comes into contact with your soles. Looking into the shoes, you may find that the insole looks a lot. Indeed, this part is also infiltrated with high technology. For example, insole materials, generally also use EVA, but the surface has been treated to increase the adsorption and emission of sweat to the feet. There are also insoles that adjust the support of the arch to achieve the best fit between the foot and the shoe.

The other part of the upper part is the upper. This part is the most complicated and difficult part of shoe design. This mainly refers to how to achieve the balance of the appearance, style and function of the shoes. Big-name sports brands often launch many attractive new styles every quarter so that buyers can pick up their wallets. Functionally, this part is mainly considered to be: breathable, comfortable, tight protection of the foot and ankle, firm and convenient use of the shoelace.
